12 FAVE ARTist countdown: Takeyce Walter

Takeyce Walter is a Hudson River Valley Artist. I met her through the Daily Painters website and we have shared some of our love for the Hudson River. My favorite paintings of Takeyce's are of bodies of water that meander into the distance taking me along on a serene float into nature's beauty. She often paints the waterways of the Hudson River, the Mohawk River and various lakes in the Adirondacks.

Takeyce paints the four seasons through the course of the year.

These two paintings are the familiar view from Olana, where I often paint this very same view through the course of the four seasons of the year.

It was these colorful birch tree paintings that first caught my eye a few years ago on the Daily Painters Gallery. Takeyce sells regularly from her blog and local shows. I don't think she has a large inventory of paintings taking up space. Takeyce, myself, Jamie Grossman + Jan Blencowe had a Daily Painters of the Hudson Valley Landscape show in Rhinebeck, NY last June. I hope we can do it again in the future.

These grass tufts in snowfields are familiar textures to a landscape painter like myself and Takeyce has a way of capturing the very essence of color, texture and quiet peacefulness where I can just hear my footsteps trudging through the fields and the smell of winter cold air. I really feel like I am in the landscape that she is painting....don't you....

Nude #779 - original contemporary watercolor nude by Gretchen Kelly

20" x 26" - watercolor, gouache, pastel + graphite on paper
This one is from a 25 minute pose. I have been taking a break from my figurative painting this past week. I enter the season when my local figure painting sessions at the Hudson Opera House take a seasonal break. I have plenty that I can work on the backgrounds of to post for awhile. But soon I will be back to hiring my own model to do more private sessions according to my whims. I am feeling like doing some more boudoir poses with lingerie and the bed.....all cozy and nestled in for the winter.

12 Days of FAVE ARTists (countdown): EDWARD B. GORDON

Edward B. Gordon is a Daily Painter. He's painted over 1100
paintings and it all started in Nov. 2006. (the one at left is no. 1100)
Edward's paintings are in high demand and he is able to conduct his own auction on his blog each day where buyers can submit a bid and the highest bid for the day gets the painting. All his paintings sell out. I first saw him on the Daily Painters website (not there anymore) and now I follow him on Facebook which is where I follow a lot Artists posting their work for all to see. It's a new forum to show and tell and there is a little more intimacy on FB where you can easily leave a comment or click the "like" button. It lets the person know you stopped by to say "Hello". He is one of my global buddies that I have yet to meet...and maybe I will someday. His paintings are dramatic, high in contrast that draws you in to look closer. I like seeing the daily life in Berlin where he lives. I feel like l know the streets, the bridges, the architecture in Berlin because I have examined his work closely and a feeling is conveyed as the harsh early morning sunlight streams through building's sillouettes and the smoke billows from construction sites.

Not only does he do scenic but he also paints figurative....

Another thing I love about his posts are the prelim sketches which show the underpinnings of his compositions.

This painting depicts Edward 's new studio where he is moving to soon in another part of the city. It has beautiful northern light. You can see more pictures of it on his blog.
Thanks Edward for being so devoted to your practice of daily painting and for showing it globally.
