Bathing Boy - original watercolor by Gretchen Kelly

12" x 12" watercolor + graphite on paper
This is a temporary photo taken with my phone at low res. My regular camera is malfunctioning. What a drag- I will re-shoot this painting asap. Guess I have to buy a new camera...
About this painting: while staying in Ct. for part of the week, my friend's little boy posed for me. But really, the portrait is from a photo because he could not stay in any position for longer than one minute, although he was trying to. He was so funny when I asked him to pose for me - I have no idea where he got the notion to strike a pose and come up with some very dramatic legs pointed towards the ceiling, which was priceless amd made me laugh hard. Unfortunately, I could not capture that and the camera wasn't quick enough either. But above is what I did capture...

One minute pose series XX - original figure painting by Gretchen Kelly

One minute pose series XX.1 + 2

One minute pose series XX.3 + 4

This series of poses has an abstract quality that I love which can never be planned by me - it just happens in the moment. These poses are filled with the action that was present.

Nude #551 - original watercolor nude by Gretchen Kelly

15" x 20" - watercolor, graphite on paper

I had to take matters into my own hands -in order to be able to paint more nudes during the course of the week. I asked some of my friends to pose and in return they can have a painting of themselves. That's one reason, the other is that I don't want to keep posting male nudes that I did on Sunday. I think by now everyone who follows my daily paintings knows that I prefer painting the female figure.

Nude #549- original watercolor by Gretchen Kelly

13" x 17" - watercolor, gouache, graphite on paper
Hudson Opera House started up again with weekly model sessions. I was surprized that I stuck it out - males are not my favorite to paint.... oh well - I needed the practice. (sorry Rudy, don't take it personally)

Full snow moon- original portrait by Gretchen Kelly

13" x 20" watercolor, gouache, graphite on paper
While walking to the post office this evening the bright big moon was rising above the tree branches. It always takes my breath away when I see it first coming up over the horizon.
