Nude #362 - 9"x12" - watercolor, gouache, pastel + graphite on cardboard

This nude is inspired by a vintage photo taken by Guglielmo Marconi, c. 1870. There is a mood from this era that I find mysterious and like to paint.

Nude #361- 20"x27" - watercolor, gouache, pastel, graphite on paper

I added an Ikat inspired background, which is a pattern that I am working with in my other career as a designer. I also am playing with color combos and what better place to see my work than on my paintings.

This nude was done quite some time ago. She was suspended hanging there on the page and needed some grounding with a bit of pattern and color.

Photosynthesis - 8"x 12.5"- mixed media

This is what I see outside my studio window. Every Spring, as the buds on this tree open before my eyes I indulge in the virgin greens that catch the sunlight. It is so yummy to me - I want to eat it up for lunch, like Popeye eats spinach for his musculs.
This is a monoprint with over painting (as was yesterday's post). I used printing inks and then drew with graphite and added some acrylic. It is printed on rice paper.

Spring has sprung- 7.5"x12.5" mixed media

Life is springing from black winter branches. Soft shapes and shades of green are fluffy as buds burst. It is my favorite time of year. I savor it as I move through nature each day observing the birth of life in many forms.

Nude #357- 18"x24" watercolor, gouache, graphite + pastel on paper

This painting is from a 25 minute pose. I like the colors that appeared on the page - it usually is not something I plan when I am trying to get as much fast drawing + painting done in such a squeeze. Then when I get the painting home I consider what the background colors will be based on the nude. Teal and turquoise are appearing in my paintings a lot these days,

Nude #354- watercolor, gouache, pastel, graphite, silver pigment on paper

Many of my works have a slap-the-paint on and drip'n dry look. It is intentional. It shows the strokes and movement. I like to contrast that with a more thoughtful stencil to hold it together and keep the eye occupied. The silver pigment adds permanence and brings in colors that are reflected. The whole thing in total is pretty grand for 25 minute pose. (the background is added later)
