Nude #130 - 8"x 11" ink & gold leaf on paper

This is another experiment using gold leaf. It looks very dramatic and glamorous. This looks like it should be in a vintage Playboy magazine cartoon.( I'll take that as a compliment - thanks, Gretchen! - I said to myself)

Nude #129 - 19"x25" gouache, pastel, wax & graphite on paper

This was an experiment to see how the wax works as a stencil resist. It was not that easy to apply but I am happy with what the end result looks like.

Still Life of Golden Pears - 11"x 20" encaustic, gouache & graphite on board

I enjoy painting with the encaustic wax because it so easily gets me to work impressionistically. I am not using my brain as much and that's always a good thing. I am working from my gut or inner being that always makes better Art than my big-old-brain.

Christmas pears - gouache, encaustic & graphite on board - 11"x 20"

I have been trying to pull out of the recesses of my brain some Christmas still lifes without them being obviously the usual holly berries and ribbons, etc. I think I uncorked the geanie bottle today and now a bounty to follow in the coming days.

Nude #127 - gouache & pastel on paper 16"x 20"

I am thinking of trees lately - Charlie Brown Xmas trees, weeping willows, cherry trees, bonzai topiaries, and men in trees - don't ask.....

Still life of cerise, citrine & chinoiserie - 19"x 24" - watercolor, gouache, pastel, color pencil on paper

I am being more intentional with color and objects and pattern BUT then again they are directing me. Who is in charge here? Me or my Art? I actually feel like I am being guided and I am immersed in the colors and the patterns and textures. It's a fun trip that I am on.

Nude #125 - gouache & pastel on paper - 16"x20"

I love designing patterns and decorating my paintings with them. I added the stenciled silver overlay after staring at this nude for a few weeks. It looks finished to me now.I am very influenced by Matisse. I love the colors and patterns that filled his work.

Nude #124 - pastel on paper - 18" x 24"

The beauty is the gesture and the sport of it for me. Then I secondarily think of the color choices as I compete against the 5 minute time restraint of the pose..... I like when it is successful in these quick studies.

Nude #123 - gouache & graphite on paper - 18"x 24"

The two color hits of purple and red are bold and effective with the simplicity of the line work. Less is more here.

GK in San Clemente - water color

I am dedicated, as you can see, to my Daily Paintings. Here I am on my vacation with surfers and the sun that I crave in the middle of the winter. I must say, I DO know how to treat myself well. It is so beautiful here. Stay tuned for more of my vacation on the left coast.....

Nude #121 - gouache & pastel on paper - 12"x18"

I prepped this paper with the wallpaper pattern in the upper half of the paper and painted the nude onto it which is the opposite of what I usually do - just to see how it would go ... not as fun - not as spontaneous as when I decide to add pattern after the nude is done on the page. I just needed to see how I felt about that.

White ceramics on red & yellow fabric - gouache, pastel & graphite on paper - 12"x18"

I added the black after staring at this still life for a week. It holds down the white pieces on the fabric and it gives more balance.

Fruit on red and white fabric - watercolor, gouache & graphite on paper - 18"x24"

I was going to crop this closer to the subject at the top edge but my friend talked me into keeping the space at the top. I think I like it. I will look at it this way for awhile....

Nude #120 - gouache & pastel - 18"x24"

This a continuation of me playing with bold pattern in the background contrasted against the sketchy texture of the nude and then the vacant open citrine floor. I love these colors mixed with the gold metallic of the wallpaper.

Nude #119 - gouache, pastel & graphite on paper - 16"x20"

We had a great model tonight at figure drawing but my game was off and I did not capture her beautiful features. She had a profile like Sargent's Madame X but that's not apparent here.

Nude #118 gouache & oil stick on paper- 18"x30"

It is very obvious that I am completely overtaken by adding pattern into my work creating bold contrast between the nude and the background. But actually the figure is blending into the background.

Golden Pear - gouache & oil paint on cardboard- 9"x11.5"

I am playing with contrasting techniques. The graphic gold wallpaper background against the realism of the pear, the pear is set on palette knife flat black and it's painted on cardboard. This is fun stuff for me.

A green pear and vintage Dior animal print - 10"x10" oil on wood

I have quite the collection of animal prints. They're hot again and I can be happy that I saved so many of them. This time around I will not only be wearing my treasures but painting them in my fruitscapes. I really like the way they dress up these paintings and add that pazazz.
